The Sin Leaving The Prayer Five Times Greater Than The Sins Of Adultery And Others

TIMESOFISLAM.ORG, TANJUNG ENIM - Readers who may always be blessed by Allah the Exalted. We all know that prayer is a very important matter. Even prayer is one of the main pillars of Islam that can make Islamic buildings upright. However, the reality that exists in the midst of this people is really very different. If we glance at our surroundings, there are people who in their Identity Cards claim to be Muslim, but usually leave this pillar of Islam.

Maybe between them, there are those who only pray once a day, even if you remember. Maybe there are also those who only pray once a week, that is Friday prayers. What's worse, not a few who only remember and perform prayers twice a year, namely when Eid Al-Fithri and Eid al-Adha alone.

It's really concerned with the current condition of the people. Many claim to be Islam on their National Identity Cards, but their behavior is like this. Therefore, in this short article we will raise the discussion about the law of leaving prayer. May Allah make it easy and give taufik to everyone who reads this article

The Ulama Agree That Leaving Prayers Is a Big Sins Greater Than Other Big Sins

Ibn Qayyim Al Jauziyah - Rahimahullah - said, "The Muslims agreed that leaving the prayer five times intentionally is the biggest sin and that it is greater than the sins of killing, seizing other people's property, adultery, stealing, and drinking liquor. The one who leaves it will be punished and angry with Allah and will get humiliated in this world and the hereafter. "

Quoted by Adz Dzahabi in Al Kaba'ir, Ibn Hazm - Rahimahullah - said, "There is no sin after the greatest ugliness of sins of leaving prayer until its time comes out and killing a believer without justifiable reasons." (Al Kaba'ir, p. 25)

Adz Dzahabi - Rahimahullah - also said, "People who end the prayer until the time comes, including the big sinner. And those who leave the prayer as a whole - that is, just one prayer - are considered as people who commit adultery and steal. Because leaving salat or miss it is a big sin. Therefore, those who leave him repeatedly include the great sinner until he repents. Surely those who leave prayer include those who are losers, wretched and including those of mujrim (who commit sins). "(Al Kaba'ir, pp. 26-27)

Can People Who Leave Salat Can Be Kafir aka Non-Muslims?

In the previous point has been explained, the scholars agreed that leaving the prayer including a big sin even greater than the sin of adultery and stealing. They did not disagree on this issue. However, the next problem is whether the person who leaves the prayer is still Muslim or has he disbelieved?

Asy Syaukani - Rahimahullah - said that there was no difference of opinion among Muslims regarding the disbelief of those who leave prayers because they deny their obligations. But if leaving the prayer because of laziness and still believe in the five daily prayers is mandatory - as is the condition of most Muslims today -, then in this case there are differences of opinion (See Nailul Author, 1/369).

Regarding leaving prayer because of laziness and still believe that prayer is obligatory, there are three opinions among the scholars regarding this matter.

The first opinion says that people who leave prayers must be killed because they are considered apostates (out of Islam). This opinion is the opinion of Imam Ahmad, Sa'id bin Jubair, 'Amir Asy Sya'bi, Ibrohim An Nakho'i, Abu' Amr, Al Auza'i, Ayyub As Sakhtiyani, 'Abdullah bin Al Mubarrok, Ishaq bin Rohuwyah,' Abdul Malik bin Habib (Malikiyyah scholar), the opinion of some Shafi'i scholars, the opinion of Imam Shafi'i (as said by Ath Thohawiy), the opinion of Umar bin Al Khothob (as said by Ibnu Hazm), Mu'adz bin Jabal, 'Abdurrahman bin 'Awf, Abu Hurairah, and other best friends.

The second opinion says that those who leave prayer are killed with the punishment of having, but not being punished by infidels. This is the opinion of Malik, Shafi'i, and one of Imam Ahmad's opinions.

The third opinion says that the person who leaves the prayer because of laziness is fasiq (has committed a grave sin) and he must be jailed until he wants to perform the prayer. This is the opinion of Hanafiyyah. (Al Mawsu'ah Al Fiqhiyah Al Kuwaitiyah, 22/186-187)

So, basically there are differences of opinion on this issue among the scholars including the scholars of madzhab. How is the law to leave the prayer according to the Qur'an and Sunnah? Please refer to the next discussion.

Talks of People Who Leave Salat in the Qur'an
Many verses talk about this in the Qur'an, but what we bring is only two verses.

Allah Ta'ala said,
Then come after them, a substitute (the ugly) who squandered the prayer and sorted out their passions, then they will meet al Ghoyya, except those who repent, believe and do good deeds. "(Surat Maryam: 59-60)

Ibn Mas'ud radhiyallahu 'anhuma said that the' ghoyya 'in the verse is a river in Jahannam whose food is very disgusting, whose place is very deep. (Ash Sholah, p. 31)

In this verse, Allah made this place - the river in Jahannam - a place for people to pray and follow lust (lust). If the person who leaves the prayer is a person who only acts with ordinary actions, of course he will be in the uppermost hell, as a place of sinful Muslims. This place (ghoyya) which is the lowest part of hell, is not a Muslim place, but a place of infidels.
In the next verse too, Allah has said,
"Except those who repent, believe and do good deeds". So if the person who is praying is mu'min, of course he is not asked to repent for faith.

In another verse, Allah Ta'ala says,

"If they repent, establish prayers and perform alms, then (they) are your brothers and sisters in the same religion." (QS. At Taubah [9]: 11). In this verse, Allah Ta'ala links the brotherhood of the faith with the prayer. Means that if the prayer is not done, not a brother in faith. Consequently the person who leaves the prayer is not a believer because the believer is related as Allah Ta'ala says,

"Believers are truly brothers." (Surah Al Hujurat [49]: 10)

Talks of People Who Leave Salat in the Hadith There are several hadiths that discuss this issue.

From Jabir bin ‘Abdillah, Rasulullah Sallallaahu‘ alayhi wa sallam said,

"(Limitation) between a Muslim and shirk and disbelief is leaving prayer." (HR. Muslim no. 257).

From Tsauban radhiyallahu ‘anhu -bekas slaves of the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alayhi wa sallam-, he heard the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said,

"The separation between a servant and kufr and faith is prayer. If he leaves, he will make a shirk. "(Narrated by Ath Thobariy with saheeh saheeh. Shaykh Al Albani says this hadith is authentic. See Saheeh At Targib wa At Tarhib no. 566).

Narrated from Mu'adz ibn Jabal, the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said,
"The core (principal) of all matters is Islam and its pillar (support) is prayer." (HR. Tirmidhi no. 2825. Said by Shaykh Al Albani in Shohih wa Dho'if Sunan At Tirmidhi). In this hadith, it is said that prayer in Islam is like a pillar that upholds the tent. The tent can collapse (collapse) with the broken pole. Likewise with Islam, can collapse with the loss of prayer.

Berijma Companions (Agreed), Leaving Salat is a Kafir

Umar said,
"It is not called Muslims for those who leave prayers."

From another path, Umar said,
"There is no part in Islam for those who leave the prayers." this is shohih, as said by Shaykh Al Albani in Irwa'ul Gholil no. 209). When Umar said the words above when approaching death, no one friend who denied it. Therefore, the law that leaving prayer is a disbeliever including ijma '(agreement) friend as stated by Ibnul Qoyyim in the book Ash Sholah.

The majority of the Companions of the Prophet considered that those who leave the prayer intentionally are infidels as a tabi'in, Abdullah bin Syaqiq said. He said,
"In the past, the Companions of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam never considered a charity that if left causing infidels except prayers." Abu Hurairah in it. And sanad (narrator) of this hadith is saheeh. (See Ats Tsamar Al Mustathob fi Fihis Sunnah wal Kitab, p. 52)

From this last discussion it can be seen that the Qur'an, the hadiths and sayings of friends even this is ijma '(agreement) they state that those who leave the prayer deliberately are infidels (out of Islam). That is the strongest opinion of the opinions of the existing scholars.

Ibnul Qayyim said, "Is not a person embarrassed by denying the opinion that people who leave prayer are infidels, even though this has been witnessed by the Holy Book (Al Qur'an), As Sunnah and the agreement of friends. Wallahul Muwaffiq (Only Allah can give taufik). "(Ash Sholah, p. 56)
Various Cases of People Who Leave Salat

[First Case] This case is leaving prayer by denying one's obligations as some say, ‘Praying by, ora praying by. '[If you want to pray it's fine, no prayer is okay]. If this is done in order to disavow the obligatory law of prayer, this kind of person is punished by infidels without any dispute between the scholars.

[Second Case] This time the case is leaving the prayer by considering it is easy and never doing it. Even when invited to do it, even reluctant. So this kind of person applies the hadiths of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam which shows the non-believers who leave prayer. This is the opinion of Imam Ahmad, Ishaq, the majority of the salaf scholars from Companions and Tabin'in.

[Third Case] This case is often done by Muslims, which is not routine in performing prayers, namely sometimes prayers and sometimes not. So he was still punished by Muslims in zhohir (which appeared on him) and was not infidel. This is the opinion of Ishaq bin Rohuwyah that is to be gentle toward this kind of person until he returns to the right path. Wal ‘ibroh bilkhotimah [The punishment for him is seen from the end of his life].

Syaikhul Islam Ibn Taimiyyah said, "If a servant carries out part of the command and leaves part, then for him the faith is in accordance with the command that he did. That faith increases and decreases. And it could be that in a servant there is faith and nifa at the same time. ... Indeed, most people and even the majority in many countries, do not always keep the five daily prayers. And they did not leave in total. They sometimes pray and sometimes leave it. Such people are in themselves faith and nifa at the same time. Applicable to them the Islamic law in zhohir as in the case of inheritance and such. This law (inheritance) can apply to genuine hypocrites. So it is more appropriate for people who sometimes pray and sometimes not. "(Majmu’ Al Fatawa, 7/617)

[Fourth Case] This case is for people who leave prayers and do not know that leaving prayers makes people disbelieve. So the law for this kind of person is as ignorant (stupid). This person was not married because of the ignorance in him which was considered as a deterrent to getting punishment.

[Fifth Case] This case is for people who pray until the time comes out. He always does it routinely, but often does it outside of his time. So this kind of person is not unbeliever, but he is sinful and this act is very despicable as Allah says,

"So it is an accident for those who pray, (ie) those who neglect their prayers." (Surah Al Maa'un [107]: 4-5) (See Al Manhajus Salafi 'inda Shaykh Nashiruddin Al Albani, 189 -190)
Closing

It is fitting we maintain the five daily prayers. Whoever always takes care of him means guarding his religion. Whoever is often wasted, then for other practices will be wasted more.

Amir al-mu'minin, Umar ibn Al-Khoththob –radhiyallahu ‘anhu- said,“ Surely among the most important matters for you are prayer. Whoever keep praying, meaning he has been keeping religion. Whoever wasted it, then for other practices will be wasted more. There is no part in Islam, for those who leave prayers. "

Imam Ahmad - Rahimahullah - also said the same words, "Anyone who underestimates the case of prayer, has underestimated religion. A person has a part in Islam comparable to his preservation of the five daily prayers. Someone who is said to be passionate in Islam is one who really pays attention to the five daily prayers. Know thyself, O servants of Allah. Beware! You must not meet Allah, whereas you have no part in Islam. The level of Islam in your heart, according to the level of prayer in your heart. "(See Ash Sholah, p. 12)

Therefore, one is not only convinced (justifying) that the five daily prayers are mandatory. But it must be accompanied by carrying it out (inqiyad). Because faith is not only with tashdiq (justifying), but must also be accompanied by inqiyad (carrying it out with limbs).

Ibnul Qoyyim said, "Faith is to justify (tashdiq). But it is not just justifying (believing), without carrying it out (inqiyad). If faith only justifies (tashdiq), of course the devil, Pharaoh and his people, the pious people, and the Jews who justify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah (they believe this as they know their children), surely they will all be called a believer (mu'min-mushoddiq). "

Al Hasan said, "Faith is not only by wishful thinking (without practice). But faith is something that is stuck in the heart and is justified by deeds. "(See Ash Sholah, 35-36)

Hopefully this short article is useful for Muslims. Hopefully we can remind our relatives, relatives and friends about the dangers of leaving the five daily prayers.
