TIMESOFISLAM.ORG, TANJUNG ENIM - Question : Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings

I want to ask, does Islam actually allow it if a servant of Allah keeps a picture of a living creature like a normal photo on display at home? Thank you, please answer. [Rizki Reza saputra Fb Account]

Answer : May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you too.

Thank God, amma ba'du. Hayyakillah, welcome to Voa-Islam. May Allah always bless us all. Aamiin

Brother Akhi Rizki Reza Saputra, the final question is good, and useful for other Muslims, who might also encounter a problem like akhi. Hopefully with this question we answer will make the spirit and istiqamah even more on the sunnah of the Prophet.

The scholars have agreed about the haram to draw living creatures who animate. Shaykh Sayyid Sabiq in his book Fiqh Sunnah Juz 3 Pg. 369 he said, "It is clear the noble hadith that is authentic about the prohibition of carving statues and drawing living beings. Be it humans, animals or birds, as for drawing something lifeless creatures such as plants or flowers and such they are allowed. "

Similarly, putting up pictures in the house, Shaykh Sayyid Sabiq also forbade it because it caused angels not to enter the house.

In line with Shaykh Sayyid Sabiq, Shaykh Salim ibn Ied Al Hilali in his book Mausuu'ah Al Manaahisy shar'iyah Fi Shahiihis Sunnah An Nabawiyyah he also forbids the image of animate, "Haram is the law of drawings and paintings (creatures that have life because they include rivaling the creation of Allah). As for the draftsman, he will be punished in the fires of hell on the Day of Judgment and will be ordered to live what he has made. "

The postulates about the illegitimacy of drawing and installing in the house include the following:

(1). Aisyah radhiallahu anha said: Rasulullah entered my house while I had just closed my house with a curtain on which there were pictures. When he saw it, his face changed (angry) and then pulled the curtain until it broke. Then he said:

إِنَّ مِنْ أَشَدِّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الَّذِينَ يُشَبِّهُونَ بِخَلْقِ اللَّهِ

"Indeed, the most tortured people on the Day of Judgment are those who liken Allah's creatures." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari no. 5954 and Muslim no. 5525 and this is his lafazh).

In Muslim history:

"He (Ayesha) put a curtain on which there were pictures, so the Prophet entered and pulled it out. He said, "So I cut the curtain and then I made two pillows from it." (Bukhari-Muslim history hadith).

(2). Jabir hadith radhiallahu anhu he said:

نَهَى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ الصُّوَرِ فِي الْبَيْتِ وَنَهَى أَنْ يَصْنَعَ ذَلِكَ

"Rasulullah sallallaahu alayhi wasallam forbade pictures in the house and he forbade making pictures." (history hadith. At-Tirmizi no. 1671).

(3). From Ali radhiallahu anhu he said:

"I made food and invited the Prophet (peace be upon him) to come. When he came and entered the house, he saw a picture curtain, so he immediately came out saying, "Verily the angels will not enter the house in which there are pictures." (Narrated by An-Nasai no. 5256).

(4) From Abu Hurairah radhiallahu anhu he said: The Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wasallam said:

لا تَدْخُلُ الْمَلائِكَةُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ تَمَاثِيلُ أَوْ تَصَاوِيرُ

"Angels will not enter a house in which there are statues or pictures." (history hadith. Muslim no. 5545).

(5) From Abu Hurairah radhiallahu anhu he said:

"Gabriel alaihissalam asked permission from the Prophet, the Prophet said," Come in. "Then Gabriel answered," How would I come while in your house there is a picture curtain. You should remove the parts of the heads or use them as a base to lie on, because we angels do not enter a house in which there are pictures. "(history hadith. An-Nasai no. 5270).

Similar to this hadith from Aisha's narration of Muslim history, Ibn Umar's narration of Al-Bukhari, and other hadiths.

Thus the hadiths which explain the prohibition of putting pictures of living in the house, then we should heed the warning of the Prophet Muhammad for the blessings of our homes. Because it does not have to decorate the house by displaying photos, there are still many beautiful high-value art decorations compared to displaying photographs of family or charismatic figures.

Although we do not deny, there are some scholars who still allow to display photos on the grounds because the work of painting and photography is different. If photography is a play of light as a mirror. So it can't be on equate with paintings that paint directly by hand.

It's just that, in the matter of installing animate images in the house, whether the picture is from a painting or a photograph of the camera, the forbidden opinion is stronger and closer to the truth. The truth belongs to Allah if there is a mistake because we are personal. God knows the nature.
