In 2014, Omar was even named a new star in the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Hall of Fame. He received the 2015 Community Leadership Award from Mshale, an African immigrant media outlet based in Minneapolis. In 2017, Time Magazine called Omar "the first woman to change the world." Her family was named one of the "five families that changed the world as we know" by Vogue in 2018.

Laila Ali Elmi

Not much different from Omar, Laila Ali Elmi also engaged in politics. The Somali-Swedish politician is the first East African Muslim woman to be elected to the Swedish National Parliament, Riksdag.
